Her story in to songwriting

Kathryn Chelsea, grew up in the small town of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky but has always had big dreams. From the violin to the xylophone in elementary school to the clarinet in middle and high school—music has always been a constant in her life. But after high school, though the love of music never faded- her focus turned to college, working full time and at the age 19, meeting the love of her life.

Fast forward 10 years to 7 years of marriage and two beautiful little girls and it was time for playing music to re-enter in her life. However, this time it came in the form of a ukulele. Specifically, a ukulele her husband had bought to attempt to learn how to play their wedding song- just to find the soprano size he chose wasn’t the right fit for him. It set on the shelf for months until one day, Kathryn decided to pick it up and see if she could play a workshop sheet she found for a 3 chord song. She immediately fell in love with the instrument and had to learn more.

The first year of playing was spent teaching herself while the second year she decided to take lessons from a local music store. These lessons helped her unlock creativity and gain practice- learning a new cover song every week. But, 2 years in to playing- she decided she would do something she never knew she could, write a song. She learned she could write from the heart and write what was important to her.

From a song about a loved one carrying you through a hard time to a song centering around how bullies can never define you- her heart shows through her lyrics. She pairs these lyrics with the sweet sounds of the ukulele and is quickly building her discography. She has now wrote almost 20 songs and has released 3 singles since 2020 inwith more on the horizon.

Through her music, Kathryn’s #1 goal is to connect with her audience- with hopes that each song she writes ends up meaning something to someone and of course.... to also spread the joy of the ukulele!
